Let’s start with a REAL throwback (I think I’m 4 in this picture with my brother and gram). I’ve been trying to straighten out my photos. It’s a hot mess in the photo folder since I did a wholesale import from my old computer to this one. Not only are there multiples, but all of the folders I had so carefully constructed by subject (usually by trips) have been shuffled together like so many decks of cards. So Cornwall is with the Columbia, Belize, Bath and Budapest are mixed together with Shetland, etc., etc.
So how about some memories of the Fair Isles for some very special friends?
Oliver (at Jamieson & Smith) has become quite the celebrity with the growing popularity of Shetland’s Wool Week. It was wonderful to have him give us such a comprehensive introduction to grading wool, all the way through to the finished product.
I’m pretty sure this now resides in the U.S……just one of the many, many balls and skeins that crossed the pond on that trip.
I think we guessed that knitting a Shetland shawl might be easier than it turned out to be! I still have a wadded up mess of J&S cobweb on 00 needles that is supposed to be the first few rows of a scarf. It has many YO holes (most unplanned), that cause it to be lace rather than knitted fabric. It certainly requires more patience than I have at this very moment.
More memories next Thursday!
I think we need to start working on our Shetland lace again. Calls for a weekend on the lake!
