I’ve been trying to get my notes (and head) organized to begin blocking out my book in a more serious way, but getting distracted (what’s new?) by side research — like where did entrelac originate? That technique has other names and is prevalent across Scandinavia, but probably originated elsewhere. I found a small reticule in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY dated to around 1830 attributed to Germany, but that’s the earliest example I’ve found. If anyone has any ideas of other avenues to explore, please let me know.
I’m not knitting much since I returned from Sweden. The two-end knitting really caused the trigger finger on my right hand to get worse, so I’m “looking forward” to surgery on Wednesday to fix it. Apparently the entire procedure takes about 5 minutes, which is just fine with me. Also, recovery is only a couple of days that include wearing a big, puffy dressing that looks like a boxing glove (and I’m not allowed to do dishes!)
So time out consists of getting my containers planted on the deck. We missed the beginning of the season, but I can’t sit the rest of the summer with empty pots, so Bruce and I went to the garden store (twice) and filled the car with pots of color. This year’s theme seems to be things that climb up sticks or cascade over the edges. It will take some time before that becomes obvious, but meanwhile, it’s lovely to look at, and in addition with mint and parsley, thyme and basil, summer cooking gets more interesting. Up tonight at Chez Moi! is grilled zucchini boats stuffed with minted lentils, and roasted kohlrabi with hazelnuts and lemon thyme. Pass the iced tea!
Sending you strength and power for speedy and complete recovery. 💪🏻
